Vegas Dining: The burger has been given a lowly place on many menus, and often left off completely in restaurants of a certain caliber.
But BLT Burger lifts the casual cuisine to new heights with the vision of celebrated chef Laurent Tourondel.
After the success of his first BLT restaurant in New York, Tourondel opened at The Mirage to the delight of local food critics.
The menu features burgers made of many types of meat for you to choose from, all begun with 100% Black Angus beef, of course. A special treat you simply won't find anywhere else is the lamb tandoori burger, made with Colorado lamb and topped with a mint-cilantro yogurt sauce, cucumbers, olives, red onions and tomatoes.
Not into trying something new? Go with a classic, such as the Jasper Hill burger, topped with Jasper Hill blue cheese, caramelized onions in a balsamic reduction and mushrooms.
And the burger is not alone in Tourondel's creative sights. Dig into eight different types of French fries, including sweet potato and waffle-cut that Tourondel has created to sit alongside his artful burgers.
The milkshakes are inspired. Tourondel's favorite sweet treat? The Twinkie Boy, a vanilla shake with Twinkies and caramel syrup gently folded into the soft ice cream. Or try the Mocha Mudslide, a chocolate overload with coffee ice cream, crushed Oreo cookies and chocolate syrup nestled in a giant glass. You can also order the milkshake in an adult version, spiked with liqueurs or spirits of your choice.
BLT Burger at The Mirage is open Sun., Tue.-Wed. 11 a.m.-2 a.m. and Mon., Thur.-Sat., 11 a.m.-4 a.m. Call 702-792-7888.
